Malibu 335 gearbox overheating

   Hi
I ave a sunscape 1994, with a 335 indmar engine. After 20 mins under load it limits the revs to around 1500 but will be okay after 5 mins then do the same again, fault traced to gearbox or gearbox temp sensor, sensor changed and still same issue. Anyone seen any reason for the gearbox to overheat, oil okay when checked ???
Any help would be appreciated.
