I have a 1994 Supra TS6 with a PCM 1.1 transmission. I changed the transmission oil and it is a red milky consistency. I bought the boat two weeks ago and have pulled the engine for a rebuild. I was looking for some advice about where to begin. The last owner said that the transmission was shifting fine the last time he used the boat. He also told me that not too long ago he accidently left the plug out of the boat and before he noticed it the transmission was completely submerged. I did not know if this would allow water to enter the transmission. I also herad that a bad oil cooler could also allow water to enter the transmission. I am new to the inboard boat market and need some advice from an inboard veteran.
Thanks Mark |

Mark,
Change the fluid and see if the fluid has a milky look again after running the boat. My boat had the same issue and it was a bad cooler. If the transmission was submerged, there is a vent cap the could let water in.
Hope this helps,
Jeff

Get a suction gun from a auto parts store ( looks like a grease gun shape with a 30 inch long hose) and suck out as much of the oil as you can out of the oil fill hole . refill with auto transmission fluid dextron #3 or equlivent. use the boat a few hours . and do again. You may have to do this severial times to get all of the water (milkly ) out of the oil.
also keep this in mind>
1) dont over fill the transmision . use the dip stick oil level check.
2) the trans holds approx 2 quarts a time you suck and fill.
3) if you can find a product called "Sea Foam Trans tune" this has a chemical that cleans and dries hydraulics with out dammage removing the water from the oil in your transmision. Part # on can is TT16. follow directions on can . and add to oil continue with suck and fill procudure.
4) its a messy job but this will save you money on a new trans or a rebuild.
5) the water in the oil causes rust and corrosion to the internal of the transmission parts. it is also bad on the clutch plates material glue. (fyi) so getting the oil clean and not milky is important for trans life.
good luck!!
It worked on my old 89 prostar 190 mc .
